I'll begin the thread where we will discuss the books we are reading for fun. You can reply to this thread and add your thoughts about the books you are reading and what your reflections are about books you'd like to recommend to your friends.
One of my favourite books is by Jonathan Safran Foer, an American writer. One of his recent books is called Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close. The protagonist, Oskar, is a young boy living in New York City, dealing with the grief of losing his father in the events of 9/11. The book is so creative and the writing style of Foer is fresh and new. Throughout the book he uses photographs, drawings and various colours to introduce creative ideas into his narrative. Also, I love the character of Oskar. Foer brings him to life in so many ways, and I left the book feeling like I knew this little boy. The story is gripping and intense, and I cried a lot at the end.
Some other favourite books: Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-time, In the Skin of a Lion, No Great Mischief, The Stone Angel, Until I Find You, A Prayer for Owen Meany, Fifth Business, The Handmaid's Tale, A History of Love... and so many more! :)
My Independent Reading:
ReplyDeleteLast week I started a vampire series known as the House of Night Series. After Twilight I seem to be have hooked on to Vampire series so for those of you who like vamps, I strongly recommend this series for you! So far there are six books in the Series. Marked, Betrayed, Chosen, Untamed, Hunted and Tempted. Though I am only on my third book Betrayed, I’m already hooked and can’t wait to start the others. Each book is packed with excitement, horror, drama and of course romance. The main character Zoey Redbird is turned into a vampire at the age of sixteen which and sent to live at the House of Night with the rest of the teens who are chosen to turn into vampire. Like in twilight these vampires don’t feed on human blood but on wine and human food. Though many people in the book are familiar with vampires and are comfortable with them, Zoeys mother is ashamed and once Zoey is transformed, all she has is her Grand Mother who herself is a vampire to rely on. Through each book Zoey deals with new problems as she becomes older and gets to her last years at the House of Night…

For my independent reading, I am reading, The Mediator Grave Doubts by Meg Cabot. This book is a series of 6 books. I am currently reading the 4th book at the moment. The main character of this story is Susannah Simon aka Suze. She's a mediator. Which means that she can not only see ghosts but talk and feel them. Ever since Suze found out that the hot ghost of the past Jesse has been haunting her house she sees a friendship with him that's not only more than a friend. Although another mediator comes into the picture. But in this case he's a really evil one. Paul Slater. Even though he might be good looking he has an ice cold heart. Unless Suze dates him he'll blast Jesse into the after life for good. What will Suze choose to do? Well you'll have to read to find out. I think this book can be read by anyone that likes romance, and action and anxiety. This book makes you want to keep on reading sometimes its hard to stop.
ReplyDeleteFor my independent reading, I read The Mediator: Love you to Death by Meg Cabot. This is a series of six books. I read the first novel on my way to the second one. The genres are romance and action. The main character in this novel is Susannah Simon. Her mom calls her Suzie. Suzie is a mediator, meaning she spends some of her time guiding the unhappy dead into their afterlife. In this novel Suzie has newly moved into California. Where she will spend her time with her mum and new step dad, and his three sons. It hasn't been that long she arrived when she had to put her mediator skills at work immediately. A vicious spirit is about o make her life a humongous nightmare. Well on the bright side she is sharing a room with Jesse the most gorgeous looking ghost in California. However will she make the slightest move on him? I would recommend this novel to mostly teenagers between the ages of 13 to 16. Well if you like to read books about romance and action well then this is the series for you. This series will grab many readers attention.
ReplyDeleteI read a book called the secret life of bee's. this is a very entertaining book by Sue Monk Kidd. It follows the life of a young white girl who had lost her mother at a very young age. Her father is abusive and everyone at her school hates her.The only person who she can really talk to is her black maid Rosaleen. One day when the constitution is put in action Rosaleen decides to go and vote. On the way there Rosaleen gets into a fight with three white men. She and Lilly get thrown into jail and Rosaleen is beaten. They then decide that they have had enough of their life and run away. Lilly knows just where she wants to go. To the only town where she knows her mother has been to Tiburon S.C. when they arrive they find some strange things out.I think that this book was an amazing one. It was full of hardships and trials but you were also able to rejoice at the end. In your spare time i think you should definitely try reading it. It is for the more emotional reader. But i think anyone who like reading will like this book.
ReplyDeleteI am currently reading a book called The Shining, a novel by Stephen King. I was recently introduced to his work, and I can’t get enough of it. The Shining is, so far, the best book of his I have read. The book is centered around a little boy named Danny. He has something referred to as “the shining” meaning Danny is telepathic. He can read peoples minds, and when he and his family move to the Overlook hotel for the winter, he discovers that he can also see all of the horrific things that happened in the hotels past. His father, Jack, the hotels winter caretaker, was an alcoholic, and might be going insane... This book is an incredible page turner. and I can’t wait to finish it. .
ReplyDeleteThe most recent book i read was a novel by Jamila Gavin, called Coram Boy.I have read this book more than once, i just can't get enough of it.
ReplyDeleteIt was in my previous school were i discover her, and ever since i've been trying to get more and more of her books. This is:" A tale of two cities : Gloucester and London. A tale of two boys: Toby, saved from an african slave ship; Aaron, the illegitimate son of the heir to a great estate..." This book has some really touching parts, and when it comes to reading, i enjoy feeling like i'm part of the book, and in this book, i really was. It is a phenomenal book, and i would really recommend it to people.
Personally I read a lot of genres of books. I never settle down into a specific genre or series because I always get distracted by another book or series. The last book I read was Digital Fortress by Dan Brown. It is a good book by an amazing author, but it did not grip me like the Robert Langdon books by the same author. It has a decent plot with the same factual-fiction as the Da Vinci Code and Angel and Demons, but I could not understand the character well. The book I am reading now is The Lost Symbol, also by Dan Brown. It is not as captivating as The Da Vinci Code in my opinion because it takes too long for the action to start.

ReplyDeleteThe book I am personally reading is called Twins by Marcy Dermansky. It is a fictional story involving twins named Sue and Chloe. In the book, Chloe has always been the one who is treated as the better child and is thought to be the prettier one. Chloe also gets better grades in school. Sue on the other hand doesn't perform as well as Chloe but is very artistic. People are always complimenting her drawings. Throughout the book, there is tension between the parents as they are always fighting. Chloe is very close to her mom whilst Sue is close to her dad. With time the parents get a divorce. The girls are left with their mom and the dad goes away. The mom has to work extra hard to support the family and pay all the bills with little help from the dad. Chloe adapts very quickly to the dads absence. She makes new friends and engages in activities like basketball and this helps her to move on from the fact that their dad is no longer with them.Sue on the other hand finds it difficult, spending most of her free time alone or with her dog Daisy. With the money the money their dad gave them before leaving Sue buys a unicycle probably to remember her dad by, while Chloe blows hers away on shopping.
ReplyDeleteI found this book really interesting and fun to read.I enjoyed reading it because it is my favorite genre. I would recommend this book to teenage girls who love drama.
The most recent book that i have just finished reading is called "the truth about forever" written by Sarah Dessen.
ReplyDeleteThis is an extraordinary book about a girl called Macy who loses her father, who is very close to her, and how she deals with it!
This book is written with a lot of emotion and it is a very hooking book!
The book deals with how most teens would act if they lost someone close to them..it is an excellent book which i would recommend everyone to read!
The author has many other books that i am going to try and get my hands on...but i would strongly recommend reading this book!
The book that i read over the summer is entitled Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas. This book was written by Hunter S. Thompson, a very controversial author as well as a highly respected author to his readers. Hunter is a Gonzo journalist and that is the theme of this book. A gonzo journalist, like a journalist, is a writer who accounts a real event such as a newspaper article. A gonzo journalist though is someone who embeds themselves so deeply in the realities of a story they want to tell that basically they become the main character that they want to portray. Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas is Hunter S. Thompsons story of him and his attorney traveling to las Vegas in 1971, in search of the American Dream. Hunter and his attorney are both heavy drug users and the story tells of their journeys in Las Vegas blown out of their minds on drugs. The premise of their journey is to find the american dream however this goal is abandoned near the end of the boo when Thompson admits defeat in finding it. Hunter and his attorney get separated, Hunter is held in jail for several days, and they do not achieve their goal. I think the whole point of this book is left up to your own interpretation. Maybe there is no such thing as the American dream.. maybe they had it the whole time, or they are just two more drug freaks in 1970's america trying to make sense of their lives. Personally i am not sure, i do no that this book made me think, it was interesting to read, and it was not your normal structured book. I on't regret reading this book and i am glad that i did.
ReplyDeleteFor the past couple months I have been reading a series called Pretty Little Liars. I found the series of books, when I saw my sister reading them a couple years ago, but I was interested in them then. I started reading them because I saw an for the T.V. series coming out in the summer. When I saw the first episode of Pretty Little Liars I knew I would love the books. I love to read books that have a lot of drama, action, and love. I think all books need to have those in them. I feel without them that the books are boring. Pretty Little Liars is the first book I have read that isn't about VAMPIRES. As soon as I read Twilight I got hooked on to anything that was about Vampires! So I think that it showed the Pretty Little Liars is a good book, for many of you know that once you read about vampires, it's almost impossible to like anything else. There are eight books of Pretty Little Liars the first one is Pretty little Liars, Flawless, Perfect, Unbelievable, Wicked, Killer, Heartless, and Wanted. I'm only on the fourth book, but they keep getting better and better! You would enjoy reading the series Pretty Little Liars.
ReplyDeleteI enjoy reading in the genres of fantasy and adventure. I also like mysteries and comics. I read a lot and so I’ve developed this habit of reading books for a second time to catch any details I might have missed in the first reading. A book that I just finished reading for the second time is ‘The Magician’s Nephew’, by the incredible author C.S. Lewis. This book is the first book in the Chronicles of Narnia series. It falls under the genre of fantasy and tells the tale of how a magical world called Narnia was created. It’s also the story of how two young children became the first people from our world to travel between worlds. From talking lions to wacky magicians, this book has it all. I recommend this book and the whole series to anyone who likes fantasy and gripping books. C.S. Lewis is such a powerful writer that when you are reading this book you feel like you’re actually in Narnia. There are six other books in this series: The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe; The Horse and his Boy; Prince Caspian; The Voyage of the Dawn Treader; The Silver Chair; and finally The Last Battle. The whole series is very exiting and I love it. I think you would too.

I read a book called This Lullaby, by Sarah Dessen.
ReplyDeleteI chose a Sarah Dessen book, because I like alot of her books because of the way she writes. The plots aren't anything extraordinary, but she manages to capture the readers attention.
She writes about a typical teenager's life. And of course, you can connect to it.
This book is about a girl called Remy. Her dad was a musician, so before he died he wrote a song for her called This Lullaby. Remy's mom is a writer, and is going to get married for the fifth time. But later on, she finds out that her new husband is cheating on her. Remy meets a guy called Dexter. At first she thinks he is annoying, but soon enough she starts to fall in love with him. But something happens, and they break up. Remy finds another boyfriend but deep down, she still likes Dexter. So they get back together.
Being a person that generally doesn't enjoy reading, I truly liked the book. (and other Sarah Dessen books) The stories are about teenagers and their ordinary lives. So you can connect to the stories, and they're fun to read. I would mostly recommend the book to girls.
Personal Reading
ReplyDeleteI’m the type of person that can pick up almost any type of book and enjoy it. My favorite genres are sci-fi, adventure, and I don't know what type of genre this is but those books that have stories with the most wholly unreal things that could be created out of human imagination. I want to say fantasy, but these books sort of push past fantasy. Like Alice's Adventures in Wonderland, or Through the Looking Glass and What Alice Saw There, and Coroline.
Lately I’ve been re-reading one of my favorite books, The Phantom Tollbooth by Norton Juster. The book is basically about a boy named Milo who thinks everything is boring and a waste of time. He gets a package in his room and it’s a tollbooth! When he uses it, he is transported to a world of literalness and word play. Also he meets some very interesting companions (Including a WATCH DOG by the name of Tock who has a watch for a body, get it?). I don’t want to spoil the book for you, but here is one of my favorite parts:
The shore line was peaceful and flat, and the calm sea bumped it playfully along the sandy beach. In the distance a beautiful island covered with palm trees and flowers beckoned invitingly from the sparkling water.
"Nothing can possibly go wrong now," cried the Humbug happily, and as soon as he'd said it he leaped from the car, as if stuck by a pin, and sailed all the way to the little island.
"And we'll have plenty of time,'' answered Tock, who hadn't noticed that the bug was missing--and he, too, suddenly leaped into the air and disappeared.
"It certainly couldn't be a nicer day," agreed Milo, who was too busy looking at the road to see that the others had gone. And in a split second he was gone also.
He landed next to Tock and the terrified Humbug on the tiny island, which now looked completely different. Instead of palms and flowers, there were only rocks and the twisted stumps of long-dead trees. It certainly didn't seem like the same place they had seen from the road.
"Pardon me," said Milo to the first man who happened by; "can you tell me where I am?"
"To be sure," said Canby; "you're on the Island of Conclusions. Make yourself at home. You're apt to be here for some time."
"But how did we get here?" asked Milo, who was still a bit puzzled by being there at all.
"You jumped, of course," explained Canby. "That's the way most everyone gets here. It's really quite simple: every time you decide something without having a good reason, you jump to Conclusions whether you like it or not. It's such an easy trip to make that I've been here hundreds of times."
"But this is such an unpleasant-looking place," Milo remarked.
"Yes, that's true," admitted Canby; "it does look much better from a distance."
As he spoke, at least eight or nine more people sailed onto the island from every direction possible.
"Well, I'm going to jump right back," announced the Humbug, who took two or three practice bends, leaped as far as he could, and landed in a heap two feet away.
"That won't do at all," scolded Canby, helping him to his feet. "You can never jump away from Conclusions. Getting back is not so easy. That's why we're so terribly crowded here."

It’s a very whimsical story, but a very nice one. It’s definitely a good read!
I am currently reading a book called The Neighbor, by Lisa Gardner. I love reading thrilling novels, and this is book that fits in this category. It is about a young mother, blond and pretty, who vanishes from her South Boston home, leaving behind only one witness, who is her 4 year old daughter. The detective in this book, Detective D.D Warren, does some investigation and comes up with a suspect: the victim's hansom, secrative husband. It is really interesting, and I just can not put the book down every night i read it! I am almost finnished reading it, and I cannot wait to find out what Detective D.D uncovered!
ReplyDeleteThis book is confusing at the beginning because it is written in the 1st person, then later on changes into the 3rd person. I am definitly going to read it again, because I know that there are many things in the book that i did not understand. I will definitly read the next book when it comes out (if it hasn't already). I would recommend this book to everyone who loves reading thrilling, gripping,razor-sharp, highly entertaining, investigative books.
The book that I read for my personal reading was called Travel Team. It is a sports novel that was written by Mike Lupica. It is about a kid named Danny, who loves to play basketball. He dreamed of playing for the local travel team in his city, one of the best in the country. Danny wants to play for this team because his dad Richie Walker led that same team to the national championship game on ESPN when he was Danny’s age. When he tries out for the team, he is cut from the squad. Why you might ask, because he was not tall enough to play. He was heart-broken, but then finds out other people were cut from the team for the wrong reason. Then his dad comes and suggests that they make their own travel team. They decide to go through on their plan, forming their own travel team. It is hard finding good talent, but they find enough players to form the team. With lots of hard practicing, they become a good team, and end up winning the state championship. It is a really good book, and it is hard to put down. It also always gets better and better. I would definitely suggest this book to anyone who likes basketball or likes novels in general.
ReplyDeleteThe Book I'm reading at the moment is called Lord of The Flies. So far I have read the first 6 chapters of the book.
ReplyDeleteThe three main characters are called Ralph, Jack and Piggy.
Ralph is the protagonist of the book. He is elected to be leader among the boys that are stranded on the island. He tries to make a civilization for themselves on he island until they hopefully get rescued by someone.
Jack is the antagonist of the book. He becomes the leader of a seperate group of kids who are the hunters.
Piggy is the person who advises Ralph on how to run the civilization. He is also picked on by all the kids.
Summary of the story so far.
A plane carrying a bunch of kids gets shot down and crashes on an island. The surviving kids gather up and soon get an idea that they should vote for a leader. Ralph gets elected as he is one o the oldest of them. They start building shelters and make a fire so that if any passing ship would pass they would see te fie and could rescue them. At first the little kids where enthusiastic about all this but they slowly lost interest and started complaining. Jack, one of the older boys also thinks its boring. He then gets an idea to make a new group that will be called the hunters where all they do is hunting and playing. Slowly all the kids get bored of Ralphs ways of leading and most of the kids join Jacks group. The only people remaining in Ralphs group are Piggy and two twins.
For my personal reading I am reading Artemis Fowl and the Atlantis Complex. This is an adventure book written by Eoin Colfer. I have read about halfway through the book and I am really enjoying it. The protagonist is Artemis Fowl who is a boy genius who is trying to stop the polar ice caps melting. The antagonist is Turnball Root. He is an escaped convict charged for murder. I enjoy this book because it is fast-paced and full of non-stop action.
ReplyDeleteBasically what has happened so far is that Turnball Root managed to program a probe for Mars to change course and come to Earth instead it has smashed through an large glacier in Iceland where Artemis was giving a talk on how he prepared to save the Earth. It has burrowed through the ground to an underground city of Atlantis where Turnball is held prisoner thus allowing him to spring a prison break.
The book i am currently reading is "Fallen" by Lauren Kate. This book is marked as Fiction, but it also goes into a special category called Paranormal Romance, which happens to be my favorite. It a new series and is the first book in the series, the second "Torment" has yet to come out, but is coming soon. This book was about some teenagers that get put into a boarding school for the ones who have done some "bad" things in the past, and may be saw as insane.. or for having some problems. The main character in this book is Luce, and she got placed into the school for a misunderstanding, for the most part. She gets tied between two boys in the school, and once she is close to her decisions, many surprising and breath taking events happen that make things easier to understand, but harder to overcome. Huge secrets are revealed from her friends and the two boys during these events, leaving Luce almost numb in the brain, unable to figure everything out.
ReplyDeleteThis book is a absolutely amazing love story twisted in with mythical creatures. For those of you interested in vampires, this book contains none, but it is 1000 times better, in my opinion, than all the vampire books. Angels and Demons are always more superior.
I think that all the Twilight supporters will fall in love with this book, as it has the same kind of twist, but it feels more realistic and has much more details and emotions attached, to the reader.
This is my all time favorite book now, and I can't wait for the sequel to come out!
The current book I’m reading is a called Fire starter and the author is Stephen King. My father was the one who suggested of getting a Stephen King book, but I did not have any past experiences with any Stephen King books. When I started reading Fire starter I found it quite interesting, but I haven’t finished the book yet. Fire starter is about a man called Andy McGee who volunteered for medical test. This test changed Andy McGee and gave him powers. Then Andy married a woman called Vicky who also did the test and now she also has powers. These two couples and had a baby and that baby had special powers. These powers were to light objects or people on fire by just thinking it, this is called telekinesis. This baby is called Charlene and because of this baby the Government is after them, they will kill her or study her body. I’m not quite sure; remember I haven’t finished the book. So far in the book they’ve been running away from the Government without any money so they struggle to find accommodation. Also this book is set in New York Albany. The genre of this book is action and suspense. I recommend this book to anyone who likes a good suspense scientific fiction book.
ReplyDeleteI have finished reading a book, called "Walk Two Moons" by Sharon Creech. It is an emotional novel, that makes the reader feel many different emotions, while reading it. The plot is about a teenager, Salamanca, who's mother left after having a miscarriage and had to get some space. Shortly after, Salamanca finds out that the bus that her mother took, crashed and only one person survived. Her neighbor was on that bus and survived so deep down, she knows that it wasn't her mother but Salamanca's love towards her is so strong so she sets off with her grandparents on a car journey to the place where the accident happened, in hope of finding her mother. On the way, she and her grandparents share many stories, some rather sad and some rather happy.
ReplyDelete"Walk Two Moons" is a book, in which anyone from any age group and gender will fall in love with after the first page. It is one of my favorite books and I would recommend everyone because it gives the reader a new way of seeing life and appreciating it the way it is.
The book I read this month was The Alchemist by Paulo Coelho. I didn’t read it because I thought it would be a good book, instead I read it because it was one of the only books I had at home and because my dad recommended it to me. The story, I believe, was very unusual but still a good one. In the story Santiago’s (the protagonist) boon is to find a treasure which he believes is in Egypt, near the pyramids. He gets very fortunate every now and then by getting something like money or a job, but then later on he loses all of it. In this story there is a lot of irony and karma, just like with his wealth. The name of the book is the Alchemist because in the story he meets an alchemist, which is a person who is able to create gold out of other certain materials. I believe that in this story there is a moral which is; the treasure isn’t always the actual treasure, the treasure might be the journey. This is also true in life, the treasure is often the goal as well as the journey. I found this book very easily read since it was written with very simple language, and because it was only around 200 pages long. In this story there is a lesson. Overall I think it was a good book because of the easy language, the great story, and the lesson.
ReplyDeleteThis time for my personal reading, i am reading a book called by Sarah Dessen.
ReplyDeleteThe book is about a girl whose sister away with her boyfriend on her birthday!
The book is about how when the girls were small and they used to go to sleep, they used to tell each otheer "see you in dreamland.."ths book is about the girl trying to find her sister and trying to connect to her trough dreamlavery in
I havent finnshed the book but i am really enjoing it!
The book I just started and finished reading is called Uncharted 2: Among Thieves. It is about a treasure hunter called Nathan Drake and his quest for Shambala. Drake is the most creative man I've ever pictured, first on the adventure they had to find the key to the amazing temple that they figured out was in Tibet. Drake was going to retrieve it and the map from a museum in Turkey when his best friend and partner betrayed him and took it for himself. Drake was put in prison while his friend teamed up with Zoran Lazarevic, a man set on world domination. Drake’s friends bail him out of prison and the race to Shambala begins. This book has everything a good read should, a pro and antagonist, romance, action drama and 5 star entertainment. Probably the best book of 2010 maybe even the greatest of all time.
ReplyDeleteThe book I am reading is called Time Riders by Alex Scarrow, it’s the first in a new series that is based on 3 characters Liam, Maddy and Sal.
ReplyDeleteThe series takes place in many places including the Titanic and around the Ground Zero the day of the 911 attacks. What happens is, just as these three characters are about to die a man appears and saves them. They later find out that they have been recruited by the Time Riders, their mission to watch over history.
Its quite a good book, its fun to read and it teaches a bit about history.
The team find their first mission the hardest as a man builds an army and takes over the world through history.

I just finished a book called The Alchemist, written by Michael Scott. It is the first book that I have read by this author. One of the main characters is a man named Nicholas Flamel. Nicholas is real man who was born on September 28, 1330, and after almost seven hundred years later he is acknowledged as the greatest Alchemist of his time, and has been said to have discovered the secret of eternal life.
ReplyDeleteThe book takes place in America even though in 1330, when Nicholas was born, America wasn’t even discovered. In the book, he has been able to keep himself alive using the secret of eternal life hidden in a powerful book which he possesses called the Book of Abraham and Mage. Every month he has to repeat the spell to keep him immortal. Nicholas meets twins, Sophie and Josh, who he believes have the power to be taught spells to help him protect the earth from Dr. John Dee who plans to steal the Book of Abraham and Mage to end the world to bring the Dark Elders who once roamed the earth millions of years ago back to earth.
The author took a real person and wrote a book based on his in the present which I thought was quite interesting. The historical figure of Nicholas only traveled around Europe as he was French and in the book he travels around America with Sophie and Josh.
The book I read for my personal reading is entitled The Last Wish. The author is Andrzej Sapkowski, it was originally Polish, but was translated into English for the first time. The reason I chose this book, was because it is in the genre of fantasy. I personally like reading fantasy books most, and am not as much interested in other genres. This book is about a man called Geralt, who is a Witcher. This profession requires the ability to use magic, and to slay creatures around the world for money. Geralt’s main goal throughout the book is to find work, requiring him to slay some sort of creature. This book is not exactly in chronological order, since the books starts out with one story, which continues again after a few chapters. Between that one long story that continues throughout the book, many other stories take place, of Geralt trying to find work. Overall I enjoyed reading this book, and I would recommend this to anyone to read.
ReplyDeleteFor my personal reading I have read the book called The Way of Shadows. The author of this novel is Brent Weeks. I chose this book because it is mainly in the action theme. I read the blurb of the book and this was about assassins and I thought this would be a great book for me, and it was! This book is about a boy that lives in the slums of a major city, his name is Azoth. Months pass by and the conditions are becoming worse and there is a older boy harassing Azoth. He is tired of being bullied so he seeks to be apprenticed to the great wetboy (assassin) Durzo Blint. As the years pass by Azoth changes his identity and his name (to Kylar Stern) and he is training to become the greatest wetboy of his time. Anyway this is a really long book and I haven't finished the story yet and there are two more books in this series. I'm really hooked on this book because it is so action packed. I can't wait to read the other two stories.
ReplyDeleteThe book I read for my personal reading is entitled Flight Into Danger. This book talks about a Maple Leaf Charter Airline Flight 714 on its routine flight bound for Vancouver when suddenly during the middle of the flight every thing turns for the worst. The pilots get food poisoning from the fish served on the flight and a passenger has to take there place trying to land a large 4 engine 747 with the fate off all the passengers on board in his hands. On the ground the friends and relatives of loved ones wait, hope and pray for the best. This might have been a nightmare for the people onboard that night, but it was very gripping to the reader. The fact that the authors planned and executed the final product of the book so well showed me that they put a lot of effort and time to making this a book interesting to any reader.
ReplyDeleteFor my independent reading, i am reading a book called sugar and spice by Jean Ure. It is an interesting book about a teenage girl from a family made up of one crazy stressed mum, a dad who is very sickly and has to remain in bed the whole day, a 7 year old girl, a 4 year old girl and a 14 year old girl. the depressed 14 year old girl named Ruth is the one who takes care of her family while her mum is either at work, or lying on the couch watching tv. Ruth has no friends and is always alone. That is until the new girl comes around! Cheyenne (the new girl) is a cool girl who is strong and fierce and every one was shocked when she started hanging out with Ruth! Ruth hates her new school and she was bullied on a regular basis. Then when Cheyenne came along she stopped being bullied! One day Ruth went to Cheyenne's house and was shocked to see that she has a coffin as her bed! Later on in the book Cheyenne told Ruth that her dad is a bat and her mum is a vampire! I love this book because it is so funny and it has so much drama! and the story has stuff which teenagers in real life go through! I have read this book more than once i just love it!
ReplyDeleteOver the summer I read a book called "Fever Crumb" the book is a non-fictional Sci-Fi and is a prequel to the book "Mortal Engines Quartet" both books are written by Philip Reeve. My friend had recommended the book to me, and I quite enjoyed it myself. The book is based in London, in a future but is riot-torn and quite run-down. The story suddenly follows the story of a girl named Fever Crumb, who was adopted by Dr. Crumb who works in the Order of Engineers. The fact that Fever is brought up by engineers puts quite an interesting perspective on this girl, for example: Fever has no hair because she was taught that hair was unnecessary by her father and co-workers. Fever is told to work on a project underground on a tunnel built by another race named the 'Scriven' where an archaeologist believes that Fever is the key to a deep and delving mysteries...
ReplyDeleteI recommend the book to anyone who wants to read about mysteries from a perspective of your not-so-everyday-girl.
Through the summer, I had been reading " The Vanishing Thieves" from the famous series " The Hardy Boys" written by Franklin W.Dixon. This specific book is about the brothers ( Frank and Joe Hardy and their father Detective Fenton Hardy)accompanied by their friends who work together and solve a case about these Drug Dealers and every time they come close to solving the case, The evidence seems to dissappear or " Vanish ". Until using their best resources and hard work they finally catch the dealers in the middle of a trade in their home town " Bay Port". Something that confuses me about this book is the fact that their is no mention of thieves despite the miss leading title. I strongly recommend this book and this series to anyone who is a mystery or a detective series freak.
ReplyDeleteFor my independent reading I have read the book ‘ The Da Vinci Code’ by Dan Brown. It is basically about a symbolist called Robert Langton and a woman called Sophie Neveu trying to figure out the message Sophie’s grandfather left behind when he was brutally murdered, the truth about the Holy Grail. On their journey the discover an ongoing war between a Christian group called Opus Dei and the Priory of Sion, a secretive group based on the protection of Jesus’ secret, that he was married to Mary Magdalene. along the way they must figure out cyphers left by Sophie's grandfather before he died. each cypher leads to anohr type until they have figured out the mystery of he Holy Grail.
ReplyDeleteIt is an excellent book and I would recommend it to anyone who likes an adventure or mystery book. It has been written in a style meant for adults but I think any teen can read it without difficulties.
For my independent reading i read the end book of a series called Troy. The book is called The Fall of Kings by David Gemmell. The story is about the taking, the war and the reason behind the battle of Troy. The story focuses much less on the mythical heroes such as Achilles, Paris and Helen but much more on the roles that could have possibly played much more important part in the epic such as Odysseus, Hektor and Agammemnon. it details the much more realistic version of how the battle of Troy might have taken place with the much more political reasons behind the siege. I believe that this is a very well written and descriptive novel. However i would not recommend this book to younger children as it does include sexual intercourse and gore. All in all it is a very good book.
ReplyDeleteI personally read many genres of books. I really enjoy fantasy, adventure and mystery. I enjoy reading books by Anthony Horowitz and Robert Muchamore. I have just finished reading Necropolis by Anthony Horowitz. Necropolis is the 4th book in the Power of 5 Series. The book is an action packed fantasy. The series is about 5 extraordinary children who have to save mankind from “dark forces”. This book is told in the third person. It is about one of the 5 superhuman children, Scarlet Adams. She is kidnapped and taken to Hong-Kong. Scarlet was taken to Hong- Kong by a criminal organization who wishes to let the “Dark Forces” destroy the world. During the course of the book Scarlet realizes that she is one of the special 5; she has to find the other 4 before its too late.
ReplyDeleteI really enjoyed this book. I thought that the book has a fantastic plot which made it action packed. The book is a continuation from the previous book Night Rise. Once you pick this book up you will not want to put it down until the last page. I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys reading fantasy and adventure.

I recently read a book called Ravens Gate. Ravens Gate is the first of four books in a series called The Power of Five. The author of the book and series is named Anthony Horowitz.
ReplyDeleteIf I had to rate this book out of five I would rate it a five out of five. I would rate the book a five out of five because it was well written, it had good content, and it had a clear beginning middle and end.
The story is set in modern London. It is about a 14 year old boy named Matthew Freeman or preferably Matt. Matt’s parents died when he was young so he had to live with his aunt and her husband.
I think that this book would be good for people who like fantasies with mysteries and magic in them. Ravens Gate appealed to me in particular because I have a very sort attention span when it comes to books. So most of the time if I finish a book it means that the book was able to hold my interest all the way through.
A book I have recently read is Inkheart by Cornelia Funke. It is a fanstasy book. Meggie,a twelwe year old girl and her father Mo, live in Italy togather.Mo is a bookbinder and both of them love to read. One day a stranger comes to their house and everything changes. They travel to her aunt's house. A few days later,Capricorn and his men kidnap Elinor, Meggie's aunt and herself to a far away mountain. Meggie's father has a skill. When he reads out loud it becomes reality. Meggie, Elinor and Mo fall into a big mess with Duntfinger, a fire eater;Farid, a boy from the Arabian nights.Capricorn wants to takeover the real world and is trying to take the book, inkheat, away from Mo. Fangilio the author of inkheart is alos jumbled up into this. Their goal is to locate inkheart and make everything back to normal. As the years went by Ravi started wondering what should he do with his like “who am I, and what am I doing” [ sometimes I ask myself this ]. During his long period of search he never found an answer once he asked a “Baba” (Hindu religious preacher or priest). A couple years later during his later Youth Ravi was so Fed with his like that he decided to take his life. It didn’t work he took poison but his servant took him to the hospital where he recovered.

Ok there is only one book i have enjoyed reading recently and that book is called house of the scorpion. Its about a young boy named Matteo Alcran who has lived in a house with his nany all of his life. One day his nanny goes out shopping and for the first time in his life he sees some other children playing outside. Naturally he wants to join in the fun so he breaks the window, and jumps out. Naturally he gets his foot cut on the broken glass and because of a code found on his foot the other children find out he is a clone. Now clones are despised, lower than human, scum that people always look down on. Matt was forced to sleep with chickens and play with his own poo for entertainment. This book is about how Matteo goes from being a low life clone to a opium drug leader.
